NECKLACE CHAIN
2021
My own take on the chain necklace—a staple in fashion and a timeless piece. I combined my love for jewelry with my art style to create a playful chain comprised of people linking arms and legs.
Designed in Rhino. SLA 3D printed with Formlabs. Cast with Shapeways.

In keeping with the simplicity of regular chains, each link is biaxial symmetric, excluding the head. I began the link by defining the shape of the loop and sweeping along it to create the leg. From there, I mirrored each subsequent part and used blend curves to surface model the rest of the body.

To ensure each link faced outwards, I twisted the ends of the links 45˚, emulating a curb style chain.

I SLA 3D printed a prototype of the chain to check the design and see how the chain naturally fell. Despite its unconventional shape, the chain readily wrapped around any circumference and did not twist or warp.

I finally used Shapeways to cast a single link as a standalone pendant.
Please don't mind the blemishes—it got run over by a car!
